Alpha Centauri: Alien Crossfire

Peaceful Earth :: The cinematics for Alien Crossfire were a fairly low-budget affair, so we had to economize as much as possible. Firaxis provided the terrain map of the planet, while the space textures came from the Hubble archives. Effects animator Mike Jones and I did the bulk of the work on the project. Alien Fleet :: I composed and animated this shot from the closing cinematic, where dozens of alien ships warp in above the planet. Firaxis provided ship models, but they had to be almost completely rebuilt to get the mesh density to a manageable level. Certain areas had to be detailed out as well. Collision Explosion :: Alien lifepods flee their destroyed craft. The aliens' technology was said to be based on temporal displacement or something, so I wanted the explosion to be really spectacular. I animated the shot, with Mike Jones providing the awesome blast effect.

PROJECT: Art directed and animated the opening and closing cinematics for Firaxis Games' Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri: Alien Crossfire CD-ROM game.

SOFTWARE: 3D Studio MAX, Photoshop

SCOPE: This was basically a two-man project, just myself and an effects animator, so in addition to art directing, I animated much of the project as well. Total run time достопримечательности Гродно two minutes.

NOTES: Firaxis provided the unmapped alien ship models.
